On Friday 25th October 2024, our Managing Director David Beveridge joined 13 of the city’s ‘most wanted’ businesspeople going before (real life) Sheriff Alayne Swanson before being locked up at a secret location in the city with nothing but his mobile and laptop.

David’s crime – growing an outrageous ginger beard, despite the pleadings and protestations of his nearest and dearest.

His challenge was to raise bail to support Maggie’s and secure his freedom.

It was a real test of David’s “wee black book” – and the good folk (over one hundred) of the Glasgow Business Community came through for him, raising more than £7,500 to bail David. The Maggies Glasgow/Jail or Bailers have raised a magnificent total of £84,000 (at time of writing).

David commented:

“As a corporate lawyer, my career has kept me far away from the justice system, the courts and prison.

I am sure there will be legions of friends, contacts and clients absolutely tickled at the prospect of seeing me behind bars, and I am delighted to oblige them for a good cause”.

Maggie’s is a remarkable charity that provides free practical, emotional, and financial support to anyone affected by cancer. With over 50% of the population being diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, the support they provide has never been more in demand.

For many people in the Greater Glasgow are, Maggie’s Glasgow is a beacon of hope, offering a calm, friendly environment where people affected by cancer can find the hope, determination, and resources they need to cope with the challenges they face. It’s an extraordinary resource for the people who need support. The centre is set to receive over 18,000 visits in 2024.

Many thanks indeed to everyone who contributed, you can still do so on the link below (for up to two weeks from 25th October 2024).
